The Newton Colfax-Mingo Pella Aquagirls will compete today for their second conference championship in three days. They take on seven other teams in the North Central Conference Swimming and Diving Meet at the Grinnell College Natatorium.
On Tuesday, the Aquagirls claimed the Little Hawkeye Conference Championship by defeating Oskaloosa and Indianola in Indianola. NCMP head coach Kaylee Franke told the team to rest yesterday, and soak in the importance of what’s ahead.
‘We are officially in high competition, as everything going forward is special and important. It’s conference, then it’s districts, and then it’s state.”
The other teams in the North Central Conference are Boone, Centerville, Decorah, Grinnell, Oskaloosa, Vinton-Shellsburg, and Williamsburg. Previously this season, the Aquagirls placed ahead of Centerville, Grinnell, Oskaloosa, and Williamsburg. They finished behind Boone, and have not competed against Decorah or Vinton-Shellsburg.
The North Central Conference Swimming and Diving Meet begins at 10 a.m. today.
