A Newton man serving time at the Newton Correction Facility has had five years added to his prison term after pleading guilty to assault by an inmate with bodily fluids, a class D felony. Court documents say 42-year-old Troy Hartson threw a cup of urine on a Correctional Officer on August 4th, and the act was witnessed by other Correctional Officers and caught on prison security cameras. Hartson is currently serving a five-year sentence for the same charge for another incident in December 2023. Judge Steven Holwerda imposed the sentence for the August offense, and dismissed an additional aggravated misdemeanor charge of assault on a corrections official.
