A group that supports the Red Rock Prairie Trail that currently exists between Prairie City and Monroe is holding their 3rd Annual Tour De Pumpkin Bike Ride tomorrow. All proceeds will go to the Friends of the Red Rock Prairie Trail for trail improvements and necessities.

Sunday’s 2 p.m. ride starts at Corn Spokes Bike Company on the northwest corner of Monroe’s Square. Riders will peddle to Prairie City and then back to Monroe. A loop to the Neil Smith WIldlife Refuge is available for participants who would like a longer ride.

The Red Rock Prairie Trail from Monroe to Prairie City was completed in August 2022. Additional funding is needed for the segment connecting Prairie City to Mitchellville. The long range goal is for this trail to be part of a connection from Saylorville Lake north of Des Moines, to Lake Red Rock, and the Neal Smith Wildlife Refuge.
