Jasper County Habitat For Humanity Community Partnership Coordinator Becca Decker hopes it isn’t another couple of years before the next Habitat for Humanity House is built in Newton. That’s how long it was from the last home that was built, to the one currently under construction on South Second Avenue West. Decker hopes to get at least one new Habitat for Humanity home completed every year, or more, depending on the number of potential homeowners.

“You have to qualify based on income, and your mortgage is never more than 30% of your income. We do require sweat equity in your home for  200 hours and different construction and finance classes you have to attend before you can close on your home.”
