The Norwalk School Board approved the addition of two bus driver positions in its most recent meeting. Norwalk transportation director Carlos Guerra worked with the school board to find a solution for frequent shortages in staff among the district’s bus drivers. The positions added will be designated as full-time substitute positions. Norwalk superintendent Shawn Holloway tells KNIA News the district seems to need substitutes in the transportation area quite often.

“We looked over the course of the year, and Carlos, our transportation director, and Cody, our mechanic, the number of days they were in a bus versus being able to do their job was extremely high. That’s an area where we seem to always be needing subs. And so what we decided to do is add two flex positions.”

Holloway also indicated that on days when substitute bus drivers are not needed, these positions will provide support to students on buses that need additional assistance.
