Central Men’s Soccer Drop Semifinal Match in Overtime

Another stellar defensive performance by the Central men’s soccer team came up short Wednesday night, as they fell in a 1-0 overtime defeat at Luther in the American Rivers Conference tournament semifinals. Central (9-4-5) and Luther played a scoreless match for 98 minutes before a Luther shot was deflected by a Dutch defender and ricocheted past Dutch goalkeeper Morgan Finkenbinder for a golden goal victory. Finkenbinder made five saves and faced 15 total shots on the night. Central attempted just three shots and got its only shot on goal from Nate Lampe in the 18th minute. The Dutch ended their season with their second consecutive trip to the league tournament semifinals.

Dutch Women Bounced from League Soccer Tournament

A barrage of second-half goals by Dubuque cost the Central women’s soccer team in a 4-0 defeat Wednesday in the American Rivers Conference tournament semifinals. The Dutch were outshot 20-4 on the night. Junior Rylee Rustad had three of Central’s shot attempts. Goalkeeper Zoey Sizemore made 10 saves in 76 minutes of play. Central (10-5-3) ended its season in the conference tournament semifinals for the second season in a row. 

Central Volleyball Sweeps Buena Vista in Regular Season Finale

The Central volleyball team finished in a tie for third place in the American Rivers Conference Wednesday night, sweeping Buena Vista 25-21, 25-23, 25-16.

Leslie Snow reached double figures in kills with 12 while also leading the team with four service aces. Paige Sexton chipped in with nine kills and Kaitlyn Mumm had seven. Snow and Mumm both were in on two blocks, while libero Colleen Kenney had 18 digs and setter Makayla Ribble had 22 assists.

The Dutch (21-8, 5-3 conference) will be the #4 seed in the league’s postseason tournament and host #5 Nebraska Wesleyan on Tuesday at 7 pm.

Dutch Men Cruise to First Wrestling Dual Win of the Season

The Central men’s wrestling team made quick work of its first dual meet of the season with a 47-0 drubbing of Nebraska Wesleyan on Wednesday.

Central (1-0, 1-0 American Rivers Conference) won all 10 matches and eight with bonus points over the Prairie Wolves. The Dutch had four wins by fall on the night. Dominick Marre ended his 125-pound bout in 4 minutes and 23 seconds, while Cade Siebrecht needed just 3:26 to work a pin at 149 pounds. Carter West at 133 pounds and Samuel West at 197 pounds didn’t need a second period, registering pins at the 2:27 and 1:38 mark, respectively.

Central hosts Coe next Thursday for a 7 pm dual inside P.H. Kuyper Gymnasium.
