Groundwork is happening for the extension to Veterans Boulevard in Knoxville’s Veterans District.
A resolution passed at a recent city council meeting for this extension in the Veterans District which will add eight additional residential lots. The extension is part of phase two of the VA District development and will also include utilities up to the former laundry building and for a future sports complex. The council received eight bids for the project and approved the low bid from Vanderpool Construction for approximately $624,000. After all 34 lots have now been sold in phase one and the additional eight lots in this extension, a lift station will now have to be put into place in the future. City Manager Heather Ussery says this extension shows positive continued development of the district.
“It just shows continued progress. I know eight homes doesn’t sound like a lot but selling out of those 34 lots in phase one but continuing to see the progress I think that means something and the extension of the utilities is a big part of that. Overall progress and homes continued to be built is a positive thing.”
Work for the project started this week.
