The Indianola City Council met in regular session Monday night, and one of the key topics was a proposed new housing development along Highway 92 known as Pickard Estates. City Manager Jake Meshke tells KNIA News the council reviewed the preliminary plat for the project, which outlines how the area could be developed and connected to existing city infrastructure.
“This would be for Pickard Estates, which is over on Highway 92 next to Pickard Commerce Park. The developer is proposing a number of different units there, some single-family, some townhomes, things of that nature. So, as far as this process goes, we’re currently working with the Iowa Department of Transportation on an access management plan for Highway 92.”
That plan will determine where vehicles can safely enter and exit the neighborhood. Meshke says one access point is already in place at 20th Street South, and another is being considered at 18th Street South, pending DOT approval. He says the goal is to make sure traffic along the highway remains safe and efficient as Indianola continues to grow. The Pickard Estates development is still early in the process, but city officials say planning those access points now will help guide responsible growth along the Highway 92 corridor.
