The Newton Colfax-Mingo Pella Aquagirls will compete with eight other teams at today’s regional state qualifying meet at the Marshalltown YMCA/YWCA. NCMP Aquagirls coach Kaylee Franke believes her swimmers are well prepared for this meet.
“We had a really distinctive practice plan the past two weeks. It’s been individualized by the swimmer and their event. So I think they are going in well prepared. Everyone’s workouts were made specific to their training group, but specific to them and what they want to succeed in. I think we have equipped them the best that we can. Now it’s a matter of them swimming their hearts out.”
Franke believes seniors Harper Barton and Tori White have a good chance to qualify for the state meet, and wouldn’t be surprised if someone from her strong sophomore or freshman class makes it as well. The regional meet in Marshalltown begins at noon.
