The Newton Salvation Army will be providing free, hot Thanksgiving Day Meals. They will be served from 11a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Salvation Army building at 301 North Second Avenue East. Newton Salvation Army Captain Tim North says anyone who would like a meal should call the Salvation Army as soon as possible, so they have an idea on how many people to expect. He notes the meal, which can be eaten on site or carried out, serves two purposes.
“One, to give somebody a nice hot meal. If they don’t want to cook, they don’t have to. Two, really for the fellowship for those that may be by themselves. They can come and sit around and have other fellowship.”
Captain North says the meal will consist of all the traditional Thanksgiving food including turkey, stuffing, and mashed potatoes. For those who plan to take advantage of the free meal, call the Newton Salvation Army at 641-792-6131.
