Looking to bounce back from their first loss of the season at Class 3A #6 PCM Friday night, the Pella Christian girls basketball team welcomes Class 1A #10 Montezuma to Eagle Lane tonight for their home opener.

The Eagles hung tough with the ranked Mustangs squad in a 48-34 loss Friday, limiting the Mustangs to just 32% shooting from the field and 21% shooting from behind the three-point line. Tonight’s contest will be the first of the season for the ranked Bravettes squad, who are coming off a 19-6 season that resulted in a Class 1A State Tournament Berth last year. Montezuma graduated two of their top three scorers from last season’s team, but return eight girls that played in their State Tournament game last March. The Bravettes top returning scorers are sophomore Vivian Cook and junior Claire Erselius, who averaged 12.5 and 9.7 points per game respectively during the 2024-2025 season. Tonight’s contest marks the tenth meeting between the two teams since 2016, with Montezuma leading the all-time series 7-3. Pella Christian ended a three-game losing streak in the series last winter with a 68-54 road victory.
