During tonight’s Newton City Council meeting, there will be public hearings on borrowing $7.2 million dollars for a number of city projects. City staff is asking the City Council to consider a $6.6 million Essential Purpose Loan Agreement for construction of street, storm water drainage, sanitary sewer system, water system, and sidewalk improvements. Some of that revenue would also go to acquiring vehicles for various departments, and funding the Dangerous and Dilapidated Buildings and Newton Housing Initiative Programs.

Another $600,000 general purpose loan agreement is proposed to pay for improvements at the fire department, the construction of training facilities for the police and fire departments, acquiring and installing server upgrades and security cameras for public facilities, and developing amenities for new park and recreation facilities.

The Newton City Council meeting at City Hall begins at 6 p.m. tonight.
