
It was the first basketball doubleheader of the new winter, and both games came down to the 4th quarter in Alleman as the Dutch basketball teams split at North Polk, as heard live on 92.1 KRLS Tuesday.
Pella’s boys earned their first win in a 64-59 game, while the girls fell 67-59 in the opener. The Dutch boys fell behind by as much as nine in the 3rd quarter and rallied back late, coming just after the full team had three practices and a scrimmage with the success in football. Jack McGuire scored 23 points and Austin Schulte added 18 to lead Pella past the Comets.
The Dutch girls were down by as much as 17 in the 3rd quarter, but rallied back to within one possession in the 4th. Avery Parks scored 14 of her 16 points during that rally, with Emma Walkup also scoring 16.
Pella’s boys are 1-0 and head to Grand View Christian on Thursday before returning to the floor with the 1-1 girls in the first conference twin bill of the winter on Friday at home against Norwalk.
