Simpson College has named Heath Moenck to serve as interim director of Athletics, temporarily succeeding Marty Bell, who recently announced his retirement from athletics effective Dec. 31, 2025.
Moenck is in his 15th year as the head cross country coach at Simpson, where he also earned a promotion to his dual role as director of track and field and cross country in 2021. Under his leadership, both programs have grown in size and stature. Competitive success features numerous conference champions, national qualifiers and All-Americans, including Spencer Moon, who claimed the NCAA Division III national championship in the 10,000 meters in 2024.
Moenck also holds extensive administrative experience through his various Title IX responsibilities, including as coordinator from November 2024 to August 2025, and as deputy for four of the last five years.
“I am confident that Heath will do an outstanding job of leading athletics through this transition,” said President Sue Stuebner. “He has a great understanding of our programs and the current NCAA landscape, as well as our conference. Most importantly, he has earned the respect and trust of his colleagues in athletics and our student-athletes.”
Moenck will assume his interim duties Jan. 1, 2026, for the spring semester. Simpson will officially launch a national search for its next director of athletics in January, with expectations to have a new leader named by April.
