Two longstanding members of City Government in Newton will be leaving their positions at the end of this year. Newton Mayor Evelyn George is retiring, and so is Fourth Ward City Council member Steve Mullan. Both will be recognized with a special reception at City Hall just before the next Newton City Council meeting on December 15th. The public is invited to stop by the Atrium between 5:30 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. and enjoy coffee and conversation with the two departing city officials. George is wrapping up one term as Newton’s Mayor, but she also had two city council positions. She took a term as an at-large council member in 2017, and represented Ward Two prior to that. Mullan is currently the longest serving member of the Newton City Council, having served since 2005.
