
The Indianola girls wrestling team took down Newton 42-33 Thursday night on the road, while the boys kept their Little Hawkeye Conference winning streak alive with a 56-13 victory over the Cardinals on a busy Thursday night, while the girls basketball team fell to Des Moines Roosevelt 56-44.
The girls saw wins by fall from Nora Ohnemus at 100lbs, Justice Bowen at 125lbs, Stella Cochran at 145lbs, Brooklyn White at 155lbs, and Jazelle Smith at 170lbs, while Siera Becker won by technical fall. They improve to 1-0, and will head back to Newton tomorrow for a tournament.
The boys saw wins by fall by Stoney Wood at 144lbs, Elijah Blewitt at 150lbs, Tegan Anderson at 190lbs, Zach O’Meara at 215lbs, and Aiden Curtis at 285lbs, while Chandler Brown at 106lbs got a technical fall victory. The Indians are now 1-0, and will travel to West Delaware tomorrow for the Bob Murphy Invitational.
The Indianola girls jumped ahead 15-4 at the end of the first quarter, but gave up a big second quarter where they were outscored 25-9 to trail 29-24 at the break. The third quarter saw the Indians keep in the game trailing 41-37 going into the final eight minutes, but ran out of gas offensively. Madi Grover had 12 points, as the Indians fall to 2-1.
Both Indianola basketball teams are back in action tonight hosting Newton, with the games being broadcast live on 94.3 KNIA with Andrew Swadner and Rick Wilson on the call. Pregame coverage begins at 6pm, with tip-off at 6:15pm.
