The Knoxville Public Safety / City Hall building project is expected to break ground in the spring.

This project will be off of Highway 14 at the site of the former Knoxville Middle School. At a meeting in November, the council heard an update from the architect and construction manager Wendel, and approved six bid packages for construction of the project at their meeting last Monday. Four more packages will also need to be rebid out. City Manager Heather Ussery says they initially wanted to break ground this fall but the city feels the spring time will work in their favor.

“We had hoped for November but because of the status of where we’re at with the rebidding of the four we are now looking at an early spring of when we will be starting. Overall I think that will be alright and work in our favor for some cost savings on the project. Winter conditions can be somewhat unfavorable or unforeseen and you can’t really plan for those so there was some contingencies built in there for some winter work so coming into the spring we hope we can hit the ground running with some nice weather.”

Stay tuned to KNIA/KRLS for updates on the project.
