After etching his name in the school’s top-10 lists in his first collegiate meet, David Souvongsavath was named the American Rivers Conference Field Athlete of the Week.
In the opening meet of the season, and first of his career, Souvongsavath made a statement at the Grinnell Opener on Friday night. Souvongsavath’s highlight came in the Shot Put, winning the event by over four-feet and his mark of 15.21-meters was the sixth best in school history.
He began the night in the weight throw, taking third overall in the competition with a best mark of 15.10-meters. The feat placed him fifth all-time in Storm history in the event.
The award marks the first of the career for Souvongsavath and the first for the Storm’s track and field programs of 2025-26.
The meet was the lone action for Simpson before the break, and the Storm will return to action Friday, Jan. 16 at the Dutch Classic in Pella, Iowa.
