The Knoxville boys basketball team defeated Chariton on Hall of Fame induction night as the girls team came up short in a South Central Conference doubleheader heard live on the KRLS2 stream.
The boys team led 22-13 at the end of the first quarter and then 44-21 at halftime. Knoxville would then outscore the Chargers 25-5 in the third frame to go up 59-26 and close out the game with the running clock in the fourth with a 76-31 win. Knoxville saw balanced scoring from four of their five starters as Lincoln Norris had 19 points, Drake Larson had 17, Jackson Reed had 16 and Tristan Stevenson finished with 14. The Panther boys improve to 3-0 overall.
The Knoxville girls got down 47-13 at halftime and fell to the Chargers 77-23. The Panthers were led in scoring by freshman Myriam Moreno who had five points as Karalee Kennedy, Addisyn Williams, and Ayla Williams all had four. The Panther girls fall to 0-5 on the year. In between the game, four new members of the Knoxville High School Athletic Hall of Fame were honored after they were officially inducted at a ceremony at the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame earlier in the day. This year’s hall of fame class included Howard Elliot from the Class of 1969, Heidi Higgenbotham from the Class of 1993, Coach Joel Johnson, and the 1987 Boys Track and Field Team.
Knoxville girls basketball coach Tracy Wilkins says hall of fame night is always a special evening.
“I think it’s the greatest thing that we do. Inviting these people back to really celebrate what they did in high school. I think it’s great for the crowd and it’s great for the kids. Kids don’t realize that you only get four years in high school and it’s gone so bringing back these people to celebrate their accomplishments and what they did in high school is just a phenomenal experience for everyone.”
The Knoxville girls and boys basketball teams will be back in action on Tuesday at Centerville.
