Before action items take place at their final meeting of 2025, the Pella City Council will read a proclamation to honor the life and legacy of a renowned historian. Dr. Ronald Rietveld died on Thanksgiving Day, which ended a life filled with learning and an aim at sharing history. Rietveld became one of the foremost experts on the life of President Abraham Lincoln, and served as an academic advisor to President Ronald Reagan. Locally, he aimed to preserve parts of historical Pella, including the Tuttle Cabin, and taught about the history of Pella during the Pella Historical Museums Dutch Day Camp. The proclamation will start Tuesday’s Pella City Council meeting at 6 p.m. in the Pella Public Safety Complex. Find the full agenda here.
