A monthly opportunity for Jasper County veterans to meet for what’s being called a Veterans Comrade Coffee begins Tuesday. Jasper County Veterans Affairs Director Ray Maxey says the coffee events will be held the third Tuesday of every month from 9 a.m. until noon at Westside Java on the west side of Newton’s square. According to Maxey, there are around 3,000 veterans in Jasper County, and many of them showed up at a similar event last month.

“To watch the veterans that we had come in at the last event and see them sitting together and talking and chatting about stuff they had experienced together or experienced in the same location, the same kind of stuff, it was amazing. Some of the veterans stayed there the whole time it was going.”
