
Both Norwalk basketball teams will be in doubleheader action tonight as they travel to Council Bluffs to take on Lewis Central. The games can be heard live on 94.3 KNIA and the KNIA3 stream. The girls team is currently 5-0, and the boys team is 1-2 after sweeping Pella Christian at home on Friday.
The #3 in 4A Norwalk girls remain undefeated and notched their second conference win over Pella Christian last week. Sophomore Braylyn Birmingham’s scoring has led them as she currently also leads the state, averaging 29.6 points per game. She is also the team’s leader in rebounds (6.8), assists (4.2), and steals (4.6) through five games. They will take on a Lewis Central team this evening that finished fifth in the Hawkeye Ten Conference last season. The Titans are coming into tonight’s game with a 1-4 record, having lost to St. Albert by 13 points on Friday. They are led in scoring by junior Macie Vetter, who averages 12.4 points a game. The Norwalk girls most recently defeated Lewis Central last December, 60-28. The Norwalk girls are currently second in the state in field goal percentage, shooting 48.4%
The Warrior boys grabbed their first win of the season against Pella Christian on Friday, 56-29. They were led by junior Tillman Papcun’s 20 points, and he is averaging a team-high 19 points per game. The Warrior boys will be taking on an undefeated Titans squad that is currently 3-0. Lewis Central is being led in scoring by sophomore Carter Thielen, who averages 25.3 points per contest early on. He is also the state’s leader in free throws made per game with ten, and second in Iowa for free throw attempts per game. Most recently, Norwalk defeated Lewis Central 62-46 last December.

The girls’ game begins at 6 p.m., with the boys to follow, and will be played in Lewis Central High School’s Big Gym.
