Norwalk Community Schools has approved updates to its Teacher Leadership and Compensation program; part of the district’s required five-year review that shapes how instructional coaches support classroom teachers across all buildings. Norwalk schools superintendent Shawn Holloway tells KNIA News the redesign doesn’t change the number of coaches, but it does shift how each building uses them to better meet specific instructional needs.

“Each building will have two instructional coaches, and their specific focus will depend on what the building need is… just a way to provide leadership opportunities for our staff and really, those positions also help with curriculum implementation.”

District leaders say the updated model is intended to create clearer roles for instructional coaches and better align their work with student achievement priorities. All positions will be filled internally, with interviews underway for both returning coaches and classroom teachers seeking leadership opportunities.

Administrators say the revised framework will give buildings more flexibility to target literacy, math, or instructional support depending on their data needs, while also strengthening classroom modeling and professional development. The district expects the changes to provide more consistent coaching and improve the implementation of new curriculum materials heading into the next school year.
