 The Newton boys swim team suffered a 94-75 loss to Des Moines Lincoln on Senior Night at the Newton YMCA on Tuesday while the Newton girls wrestling team went 1-1 and the boys were 0-2 at Norwalk.

Cardinal swimmers won seven of the eleven varsity events, but Des Moines Lincoln paired their four wins with eight second place and nine third place finishes. Individual winners for the Newton boys included Finn Martin in the 200 SC Meter Individual Medley (2:11.50) and the 100 SC Meter Backstroke (1:00.98), Caleb Punt in the 50 SC Meter Freestyle (26.00) and the 100 SC Meter Freestyle (1:10.05), and Ethan Comer in the 100 SC Meter Breaststroke (1:15.31). The Cardinal boys also placed first in the 200 SC Meter Medley Relay with Comer, Punt, Hudson Meyer, and Brody Van Zee (2:01.78), and in the 400 SC Meter Freestyle with Martin, Meyer, Punt, and Drew Lamont (4:00.01). Meyer also claimed second place in the 200 SC Meter Freestyle (2:20.45) and the 100 SC Meter Freestyle (59.00). The Newton Boys swim team is off until the Wahawk Invite in Waterloo on January 10th. 

The Cardinal girls wrestling team beat Oskaloosa 58-18, but lost to Norwalk 51-30 in a triangular at Norwalk. Against the Indians, Newton benefited from eight forfeits while Haylee Adams won by fall at 120 pounds and Peyton Hoen got a major decision at 145 pounds. In the dual against Norwalk, the Cardinals got all three of their wins by fall with Alivia Conley at 135 pounds, Shawna Foreman at 155 pounds, and Grace Guy at 170 pounds. 

The Newton boys lost to Carlisle 44-28, and to Norwalk 48-30. Five Newton wrestlers won their matches in both duals. Kent Montgomery won both his matches by fall at 120 pounds, and so did Coleby Revell at 285 pounds. Abel Aldama at 126 pounds, Lane Rozendaal at 190 pounds, and Nick Milburn at 215 pounds defeated their Carlisle opponents by decisions, and won by fall over their opposition from Norwalk. 

The Newton girls wrestling team will be back in action Saturday at the Warhorse Invitational in Chariton, while the Cardinal boys will wrestle Saturday at the Pella Wrestling Invitational.
