Former State Representative Jon Thorup has declared his candidacy for the Republican Party nomination in Senate District 11, currently held by Senator Julian Garrett.
Thorup was initially elected to the Iowa House of Representatives in District 28, which served Marion County, in 2018 and again in 2020, but lost in a primary to Barb Kniff McCulla after redistricting in 2022.
Garrett won re-election in the district in 2022 with just under 60% of the vote. Iowa Senate District 11 features all of Warren County and a portion of Marion County that includes Knoxville.
The primary will take place on June 2nd, with the general election on November 3rd.
