The Jasper County Board of Supervisors will be meeting in regular session Tuesday, and an estimated cost for the planned Law Enforcement Training Center is on the agenda. Jasper County Maintenance Director Adam Sparks has a cost estimate that totals just under $625,000. The estimate is from BBS Architects and Engineers of Des Moines. It’s for turning the county-owned building and property at 5411 Liberty Avenue, just southeast of Newton, into a law enforcement training facility. The Jasper County Animal Rescue League operated at the site for many years before closing on June 30, 2020, due to a lack of funding, partially related to the COVID-19 pandemic, and a deteriorating and overcrowded facility.
In April, the Jasper County Board of Supervisors approved a $45,402 bid for tiling work and rock at the site. It was for phase two of the Law Enforcement Training Center’s firing range. Phase one work on the firing range dealt with digging it out and setting it up.
Tuesday’s Jasper County Board of Supervisors Meeting begins at 9:30 a.m. in the Board Room at the Jasper County Courthouse in Newton.
