A new thrift store to financially help support the Marion County Humane Society has opened in Knoxville.
Pawsitively Thrifty is open Tuesday through Saturday and is located at 202 E Washington St., which is the former site of Pierschbacher Funeral Home. The humane society has held countless fundraisers over the last several years to try and offset rising costs at the shelter to keep the doors open, as they typically always run near capacity with animals, and they are hoping this new store will help alleviate some of the financial burden so the shelter can continue serving the area.
Pawsitively Thrifty has a wide variety of items in the store and they are always accepting donations, which can be dropped off at the side door. Marion County Humane Society President Leslie VanderLinden, who purchased the building with her husband, encourages everyone to come check out the new store to further support the humane society.
“We would love to have everyone come in and check us out. We have something for everybody and all of the proceeds will go to the shelter. We need new kennels, we need a new van because if we had a new van we would be able to take advantage of some free spay and neuters around the state where we can’t now because our vans aren’t trustworthy. I think there is a lot that can be done to help the shelter and eventually the community with some spay and neuter assistance.”
