A hired analysis of future school enrollment in the Newton School District shows a small decrease in students and a stabilizing student count in five years. Those were the conclusions of an analysis the school board obtained from RSP & Associates of Overland Park, Kansas. Newton School Superintendent Tom Messinger says their report shows an expected loss of 24 students by the 2030-2031 school year.

“The 2030-2031 school year is when enrollment is projected to stabilize, and that’s around the mark where we are expected to see things settle out at.”

The enrollment projections have the middle school and high school losing 21 and 40 students, respectively, over the next five years, while the two elementary schools are anticipated to gain a total of 37 students by then. The RSP & Associates report also projects Aurora Heights Elementary School to have about 575 students when the 2026-2027 school year begins, while Thomas Jefferson Elementary is expected to have about 440 kindergarten through 4th graders.
