Newton boys swimming Coach Lucas Warner has a balanced team this year in terms of participant numbers at each grade level, plus there are several athletes experiencing competitive swimming for the first time. The 2025-2026 Cardinal roster includes five seniors, seven juniors, five sophomores, and six freshmen. 

“There are a lot of freshmen that decided to give it a try this year. We have a good sophomore crew, and a couple of good returning juniors. We’ve got our seniors that have been out for a while, and a couple that wanted to give it a shot this year. It’s been fun seeing new guys in all age groups give swimming a try.”

With so many new swimmers, Lucas expects to see large time drops from many of his athletes over the course of this season. 

The Newton boys swim team also has two-time defending state champion Finn Martin and several other experienced upperclassmen. The team’s next meet is the Wahawk Invite on January 10th, 2026 at Central Middle School in Waterloo.
