A Newton man accused of unlawfully entering a home in southwest Newton Sunday morning, prompting Newton Police to issue a community alert, is facing felony and serious misdemeanor charges. Newton Police say thirty-nine-year-old Jesse Tanner Lundin voluntarily exited the West 5th Street South home and was taken into custody about 90 minutes after the initial call was made to authorities at approximately 7:44 a.m. Sunday. Newton Police say a woman reported finding Lundin, whom she knew, in her home, and said he was not authorized to be there. The woman left the residence and told officers she believed Lundin had a gun, and that he had made concerning statements that prompted her to leave.
The Newton Police Department SWAT Team, Jasper County Sheriff’s Office, and crisis negotiators assisted at the scene. The Newton Police Department also submitted a citywide alert to avoid the area while the incident was ongoing.
Lundin is charged with second degree burglary, a class C felony, and harassment in the second degree, a serious misdemeanor.
