The Pella Christian girls basketball team spent a majority of the first semester battling adversity and making the necessary changes needed to go into Christmas Break strong.

The Eagles came into the season returning ten of their top eleven girls in games played last season, but lost their second-leading returning scorer just 30 seconds into the season. Losing a top player for most teams would doom their season, but that hasn’t been the case for Pella Christian. The Eagles fought through the adversity and entered Christmas Break with a 5-3 overall record. Head coach Jon Mumm says that while some of the changes have come more difficult than others, he has been proud of the girls ability to work through and adapt to everything they have worked through.

“We really did have to adjust and tweak things. We had to ask Rachel Kacmarynski to handle the ball more, bring the ball to court more, and kind of step out of her comfort zone a little bit. And we’ve asked Chloe Nikkel to do a lot more ball handling, to help out Jessa, and relieve some pressure that way. And she’s done a great job.

The Pella Christian girls basketball team returns to action on Monday, January 5th, hosting Van Meter in a non-conference game that can be heard live on the KRLS2 Stream and viewed live on the Pella Christian YouTube Channel.
