As winter weather and holiday closures approach, Warren County Nutrition is working to ensure seniors and vulnerable residents across the county continue to have access to food when regular meal deliveries are paused.
The county-operated program suspends meal service on designated county holidays and during severe weather events to protect staff and volunteer drivers. To help prevent service disruptions, the organization prepares emergency food options ahead of time for clients who may be isolated. Warren County Nutrition Director Marty Davis tells KNIA News the county closes for several holidays and may suspend deliveries during dangerous weather.
“We have a grant that has helped us to put together emergency meal kits. So, we’re sending those out in the event, if school is closed for weather we’re closed because we don’t want to put our drivers out there at risk.”
Warren County Nutrition serves approximately 300 to 325 clients each month, primarily seniors and individuals with disabilities, providing both daily meals and wellness checks. Those interested in learning more about services, volunteering, or requesting meal assistance can contact Warren County Nutrition at 515-961-1155 or warrencountyia.gov.
