A busy season of winter weather over the last month is giving way to much warmer conditions on Christmas Day. According to the National Weather Service, typically chances strongly favor a White Christmas when at least 12 inches or more of snow has fallen by Christmas — which has been the case thus far in 2025. State Climatologist Justin Glisan says at least an inch of snow on the ground during the Christmas holiday qualifies as a White Christmas, and that Marion, Jasper, and Warren Counties generally have a 30-40% chance of at least one inch of snow on the ground on December 25th. However, a stretch of well-above average temperatures remains in the forecast through Saturday, with highs in the 40s and 50s likely during that stretch. A cooldown remains possible by Sunday, but no major precipitation is in the forecast.
