Newton residents celebrating Christmas with live Christmas Trees can have the City of Newton dispose of them for free starting Monday, January 5th, 2026. Christmas tree collection in the City of Newton annually occurs the first full week of January. 

Real Christmas trees should be placed on the curb the day of a Newton resident’s normal garbage pick-up. Trees should not be in a bag, and all items need to be removed from the trees before they are set on the curb – this includes tinsel, garland, lights, etc. Artificial trees are not accepted for disposal as part of this free collection.
