Norwalk city leaders say 2025 will be remembered as a pivotal year focused on long-term planning rather than short-term growth.
Norwalk City Manager Luke Nelson says one of the biggest developments was momentum in the city’s southwest corridor, where annexation efforts and early planning set the stage for future expansion. He says the city began the annexation process for roughly 3,000 acres, a move aimed at positioning Norwalk for decades of sustainable growth. Nelson says that area also includes early work on a potential data center project, which he describes as part of a broader effort to strengthen the city’s economic base. At the same time, the city saw its first full year of activity at Norwalk Central, with the field house now open and drawing increased use.
Residential development also remained steady throughout the year, with roughly 200 housing starts. City Manager Nelson tells KNIA News it is all healthy, manageable growth rather than rapid expansion.
“I think we will look back…at 2025 being a pivotal year when the city made some huge moves to extend our city boundaries and really looking long into the future to ensure our success.”
Nelson says many of the projects discussed in 2025 are years in the making and will continue into 2026, as the city works to balance growth, infrastructure, and quality of life.
