Two New Jasper County Sheriff’s Deputies took the oath of office this week. Deputy Ben Anderson was sworn in by Sheriff Brad Shutts Tuesday. Anderson has 20-plus years of experience in law enforcement and is from the Grinnell area. He took the oath one day after Deputy Curtis Pitman was sworn in. Pitman is from Pennsylvania, and just retired from a military career of 20-plus years.
Sheriff Shutts says Deputy Pitman and Deputy Andrew Carpenter from the Baxter area, who spent ten years in the military, will be attending the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy next month. Another Jasper County Deputy, Zach Dickerson, just graduated from the Iowa Law Enforcement Basic Academy Class 324 on December 19th.
