The Bald Eagle that the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office rescued along Highway 6 earlier this month is recovering well.

A video released by Saving Our Avian Resources shows progress in the recovery of the bird, which was apparently hit by a vehicle. The eagle has progressed to a 60-foot flight pen.

The Jasper County Communications center received a call from Jasper County Deputy Coleman regarding a bald eagle in distress. The eagle was lying in the middle of the road, unable to fly. Sgt. Van Kooten arrived on the scene, and at this point the eagle attempted to fly away, but didn’t get very far due to injuries.

Deputies called Iowa Bird Rehabilitation out of Des Moines. Staff arrived at the location, and together with the deputies, they captured the eagle. Iowa Bird Rehabilitation took the female eagle to the rehab facility for further evaluation and treatment for possible internal injuries at Saving Our Avian Resources.
