A Pella man was arrested on a warrant this week for allegedly injuring a child. According to court records, 29-year-old Caleb Attema is accused of spanking a young child with a plastic kitchen serving spoon, allegedly leaving several marks and bruises. Attema is accused of spanking with the spoon on bare skin, using it until a small portion had broken off. Caleb said in a police interview that “I would say it started out of just correcting and then turned into anger.” Attema is charged with child endangerment causing injury, a Class D felony.
