At winter break, the Newton boys basketball team has four players that are among the leaders of different statistical categories in the Little Hawkeye Conference.

Senior Dawson Maki finds himself among the leaderboards of two different stats in the league after the Cardinals first six games. Among the Little Hawkeye, Maki ranks fourth in both assists (3.0) and offensive rebounds (2.3) per game. Junior Grant Osby sits fifth in the league at the break in blocks per game (1.3), while sophomore Isaiah Slaughter is third in three-pointers made per game (2.3) and fourth in three-pointers attempted per game (6.2). Also among the conference leaders is junior Karter Holmes, who is tied for second in three-point percentage (50%) and is fifth in effective field goal percentage (70%). As a team, Newton ranks second in the Little Hawkeye in three-pointers made per game (6.5) and in three-point percentage (33.1%).

At the break, the Cardinals hold a 2-4 overall record. Newton returns to the court on Friday in the back half of a non-conference doubleheader at Des Moines Hoover.
