
Through their first seven games of the young season, the Newton girls basketball team has three girls among the top five of several statistical categories in the Little Hawkeye Conference.
Sophomore Addyson Cibula finds herself on the leaderboards of six different stats in the league. Cibula has established herself as one of the top rebounds in the conference, ranking second in total rebounds (11.0), offensive rebounds (4.0), and defensive rebounds (7.0) per game. The sophomore also ranks second in the Little Hawkeye in blocks per game (1.3), while also sitting fifth in the league in free throws made per game (2.6) and third in free throws attempted per game (4.3). Junior Payton Carkhuff also found a knack for getting to the free throw line, ranking third in free throws made per game (2.7) and fifth in free throws attempted per game (4.0). Joining her teammates among the Little Hawkeye Conference stat leaders is senior Tori White, who sits fifth in the conference in defensive rebounds per game (4.3). As a team, the Cardinals rank second in the conference in defensive rebounds per game (22.7), and are third in points allowed per game (38.1), total rebounds per game (32.7), and free throw percentage (59%).
At the break, Newton holds a 3-4 overall record. The Cardinals return to the court on Friday for a road non-conference doubleheader at Des Moines Hoover.
