
Just over 5,100 Jasper County residents helped set up the candidates for the upcoming November election by casting ballots in Tuesday’s Primary Election. The Jasper County Auditor’s Office says 65.9% of the county’s 16,697 registered Republicans cast a ballot, while the turn-out for the county’s 6,431 registered Democrats was 25.4%.
In contested races, 40.9% of Jasper County Republicans supported Zach Lahn for Governor, while Randy Feenstra collected 31.4% of the vote. In the U.S. Senate race, Ashley Hinson received 75.5% of the vote over Jim Carlin. Mariannette Miller-Meeks was preferred over David Pautsch with 75.4% of the votes for First District U.S. Representative. For State Auditor, Chris Cournoyer received 56.3% of the vote over Abigail Maas. In State Senate District 19, 55% of Jasper County Republicans chose Barb Kniff McCulla over Bob Eschliman. Jason Sandholdt received 64.8% of the vote in his District 37 State Representative race with Chase Spencer. Incumbent County Supervisors Brandon Talsma and Thad Nearmyer are headed to the November election with 37.4% and 36.2% of the votes respectively. Jerry Nelson had 25% of the votes.
Jasper County Democrats only had two contested races. In the U.S. Senate race, Josh Turek got 68.5% of the vote over Zach Wahls. Christina Bohannan was the choice of 79.1% of Jasper County Democrats over Travis Terrell in the District 1 U.S. Representative race.
