The Jasper County Board of Supervisors held their special organizational meeting on Friday morning. During the meeting, newly elected board member Thad Nearmyer was unanimously elected as the new Board Chairman, concluding a four-year stretch in which Brandon Talsma held the role. The Board of Supervisors also discussed the vacancy of Jasper County Recorder, and agreed to make an appointment at their January 27th meeting. The decision to make an appointment, rather than hold a special election in March, was made to avoid the costs of the special election before it is up for election again in November. The Board of Supervisors will take applications for Jasper County Recorder until January 16th, before interviews for the position will begin at 2 pm on January 20th. The board also approved their usual meeting time, which will continue to be held at 9:30 am on Tuesdays.
