
The Norwalk girls and boys bowling teams, as well as the boys and girls basketball teams, resume the winter sports season today with their first competitions of the 2026 calendar year.
The Warrior bowling squads will host Newton in a Little Hawkeye Conference dual that was postponed on December 13. The meet begins at 9:00 a.m. at the Air Lanes Bowling Center. Both Norwalk teams are 1-2 on the season after defeating Pella Christian in their previous dual on December 20. The Newton girls are 5-0 overall and also won their home tournament. The Cardinal boys are 1-3. Blake Halsted leads the Norwalk boys through three meets with a 232.3 average and a high game of 268. Baylee Baldwin leads the girls with a 135.8 average and a high game of 179.
The Norwalk boys basketball team looks to keep momentum alive today when they travel to Cedar Rapids to face Cedar Rapids Washington in the Conference Crossover at the Alliant Energy PowerHouse. Tip-off is set for 10:00 a.m. The Warriors have won four straight games since starting the season 0-2 while Washington has lost three straight to fall to 2-3 overall. Tillman Papcun leads Norwalk with 21.5 points and 6 rebounds per contest. Audric Pelzer averages 11 points and 2.7 assists.
The No. 3 in Class 4A Norwalk girls basketball team is also in action today, hosting Ankeny Centennial at 3:30. The Warriors, who won their first seven games by at least 19 points, entered the holiday break with a 76-71 loss to 3A top-ranked Maquoketa on December 20. Centennial took a 1-4 record into Friday night’s home game vs. Waukee. Norwalk sophomore Braylyn Birmingham is the state’s second-leading scorer with 32.2 points per game and also leads the Warriors with averages of 6.8 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 4.2 steals per contest.
