A large number of law enforcement personnel were dispatched to the Knoxville Walmart on Tuesday afternoon for a report of a parking lot dispute involving a firearm.
At 2:40 pm on Tuesday, Knoxville officers were called to Walmart for a report of a man who allegedly pulled a gun on another man. When the call initially came in, officers were unsure if it happened in the parking lot or inside the store, which police later learned it happened outside. Out of abundance of caution, when officers arrived, they handcuffed the individual who allegedly pulled the firearm on the other individual. Due to the large number of officers present, Chief Aaron Fuller was able to go into the store to look at the security video, where there was no clear evidence that the weapon was pulled on the other individual. However, the person did have a firearm in their vehicle.
According to Fuller, one of the individuals was upset about a parking spot and pulled up to another vehicle, exited, and walked up another individual in an aggressive manner with his hands out, which is where one of the men said the weapon was pulled on him and he was terrified. The man then called 911 and waited by his vehicle until officers arrived. The dispute was handled by law enforcement and no arrest was made due to insufficient video evidence. Fuller tells KNIA/KRLS that incidents like this over something as minor as a parking spot should never happen.
“You don’t approach someone else’s car in an aggressive manner. This is 2026 so right, wrong, or indifferent it is just safer to not do that. A parking spot is not anything to get into an argument or a fight about. There are 150 open parking spots in this parking lot and he could’ve chosen any one of them but for some reason he had his heart set on that one which is why we’re here.”
The Knoxville Police Department was assisted by the Marion County Sheriff’s Office and Iowa State Patrol.
