The City of Knoxville is anticipating that construction will start on the new public safety/city hall building early this spring.

At a meeting in November, the city council heard an update from the architect and construction manager Wendel, and approved six bid packages for construction of the project at a meeting in early December. The city now has gone out for re-bid on three of the packages and the bids are due January 20th. City Manager Heather Ussery says after the re-bids are approved, the council intends to meet about the project again in early February and construction is expected to start this spring.

“There were three bid packages that we decided to re-bid and that was site improvements, plumbing and HVAC, and electric so those will be due January 20th. Our first meeting in February we will bring those forward to council to approve the low bidder for those, overall have a discussion of the project in whole and hopefully be able to move forward and approve the entire project so we can hopefully move forward and get going early this spring.”

The new public safety/city hall building in Knoxville will be off of Highway 14 at the site of the former Knoxville Middle School.
