The Norwalk girls wrestling team won two out of three duals at Thursday’s Pella Quad, while the Warrior boys went 0-2 at West Des Moines Valley.

The Norwalk girls defeated English Valleys 60-12 and topped Newton 60-24, but lost to Pella 54-24. Hannah Schmitz and Maggie Evans both finished 3-0 on the night for the Warriors and Merci Scholten was 2-0. Schmitz and Scholten both earned two wins by fall. Also recording two pins for Norwalk were Cennedy Allen, Madelyn Carroll, Audrey Clay and Malaika Scholten. 

The Warriors totaled 16 pins as a team, including nine against Newton. Their dual record is now 9-7 overall and 2-2 in the Little Hawkeye Conference. They will compete in Saturday’s Ogden Tournament at 9:30 a.m.

The Norwalk boys competed against a pair of state-ranked Class 3A opponents at Valley, losing to Urbandale 49-23 and falling to the host Tigers 59-16. Senior 150-pounder Kale Wadle went 2-0 on the night, winning an 8-5 decision in sudden victory and earning a technical fall against Valley. Junior 190-pounder Victor Esparza was also 2-0 with a technical fall.

Gabriel Colunga picked up the lone Warrior pin of the meet against Urbandale. They also got tech-fall wins from Troy Finnegan, Blake Stanford and Luke Palen.

Now 8-7 overall, Norwalk will host the Tom McLaughlin Dual Tournament on Saturday at 10:00 a.m.
