The Spirit of Pella is hosting a grand opening ceremony this Saturday for the enhanced ice skating rink at Caldwell Park. Ice is available nearly the entire winter due to a chiller installed late in 2025, which was made possible by the non-profit organization in partnership with the City of Pella and several large donors. This Saturday’s event opens at 1 p.m. with comments by members of Spirit of Pella and Pella City Councilmember Calvin Bandstra, which will be immediately followed by a ribbon cutting. The Pella Ice Sports Association will hit the ice at 1:15 p.m. with a hockey scrimmage, followed by a free skate from 1:30 to 3:30, followed by a best shot on goal contest and then open hocket at 4 p.m.
