Both Pella High basketball teams posted double digit home victories over their cross-town rivals from Pella Christian as heard live last night on 92.1 KRLS. It was 63-32 in favor of the Dutch in the girls game and 48-32 in the boys contest.

Pella lost Katie Scheckel to an ankle injury early in the first quarter, but built a 15-8 lead at the end of one, and used a 10-0 spurt to close the first half and open a 31-15 advantage. Despite a good start from the Eagles in the third quarter, Pella’s lead eventually ballooned to 22 at the end of the frame and they cruised to the final margin of 31.

Emma Walkup led three players in double figures for the 13th-ranked Dutch with 15 points, Kamryn Long added 11 and Riley Parks chipped in 10. Pella improves to 7-3 overall and 2-1 in the Little Hawkeye Conference while P.C. drops to 6-5 and 1-3. They got nine points apiece from Rachel Kacmarynski and Addie Van Arendonk, with Kacmarynski leading all players with 12 rebounds.

The fifth-ranked Dutch boys made their first five shots to bolt out to a 12-2 lead, and made seven first half three pointers to open up a commanding 33-9 advantage at halftime. While the Eagles won both the third and fourth quarters, they never got closer than 12 points after the first.

Jack McGuire scored 15 points and Austin Schulte added 14 points and a game high eight boards for the Dutch, who improve to 8-2 on the season and 3-1 in the LHC. Pella Christian got 13 points from Gilbert Flagel as they fall to 6-3 and 1-3.

The Eagles are back in action on Monday night with a doubleheader against Knoxville, while Pella is off until Tuesday’s conference twinbill versus Indianola.
