A new legislative session is beginning today in Des Moines, and it will be the last session for Newton Republican Jon Dunwell. He won the District 38 Iowa House Seat in a 2021 special election, and announced last week that he would not be seeking another term. Dunwell expects property taxes will again be at the front and center of the discussions.
“Voters are saying to us that we have to take the role of limiting what budgets or revenue collection looks like in the property tax scenario, and put some limits upon that. How we get there is going to be debatable. I think it needs to be something Iowa taxpayers can see in their tax bills fairly quickly.”
Black market abortion pills, fentanyl, and age verification for pornographic websites are other issues the Newton Republican plans to deal with in bill proposals. State Representative Jon Dunwell talks more about the legislative session on today’s Let’s Talk Newton.
