The second suspect in an April 2024 Newton tattoo shop burglary has been sentenced to a deferred judgement with three years of probation and an $855 civil penalty. Thirty-five-year-old Joshua Tyler Troen  was charged with 2nd degree theft, and pleaded guilty to 3rd degree burglary, and both charges are class D felonies. A restitution hearing in Troen’s case has been set for February 4th by District Associate Judge Steven Holwerda.

An employee who had just quit working at the tattoo shop was sentenced in September, after also pleading guilty to 3rd degree burglary. Thirty-six-year-old Barron McCullum was given a suspended five-year prison term, two years of probation, and a $1,025 fine.

Court documents say security camera footage shows Troen and McCullum inside the business at 2 a.m. on April 27th of last year. Both reportedly took cash from a money drawer while Barron collected his tattoo equipment.
